Culture Wars: Why is single motherhood so rampant in American culture?
Tonight, Fox covered this story and it’s insane how COVERED the answers to this simple question are.
First of all, I have a problem with the fact that the words sexual promiscuity and immorality were never mentioned. The easy but avoided answer is that we’ve lost our moral backing in almost every essential institution in America. Its hard to track back to that though because no one wants to subscribe to a central document of morality (The Bible) and everyone wants to play it their way. Because selfishness for ones comfort and own glorification is more important than anything else in today’s culture the expulsion of absolute truth becomes necessary. You see, truth cannot exist with self-importance. Christ is the truth and his way was the low, self-denying way.
So, instead of a sorrowful evaluation of our nation’s downfall, Fox reported the takeover of feminism and female independence as the key to single motherhood. Parading “femi-Nazism” as a common solution to female (all of them) “behind bars” and “trapped” feelings of centuries past, Fox kicked itself in a rare opportunity to come to real terms with our nation’s state.
I wish this topic (and many like it) were “givens” in Christian culture and American culture at large but more and more the status quo beliefs are being taken as moral standard, and worse yet, truth. It’s about time we step up and step out regarding the truth that we know.
Can’t anyone just tell the truth these days?
Talking about yesterday’s post on injustice…today I see in the news (sorry this is LATE…) that the ship that was hijacked from Ukrainians by Somali pirates on the 29th of September was headed to Sudan to supply the ongoing crisis in Darfur. Here’s the story. That a concerted effort to continue to bring down the weak and the frail in Sudan is still going on is just a taste. Just a taste of life without God, hope, love, justice, reasoning… You can send in the U.N. if you want to but if these people’s hearts don’t change, there will be a constant tension and struggle to maintain the peace there. Think some more on applying God’s version of justice to the world…there is something to be said about maintaining his standard. If we kept his standard for us, would we not have a better world? And how is it doing it your way, world? Working out good for you? Everyone is happy and tolerant until we decide they’ve crossed one of our standards, say, killing. Then its time to draw out the rule books again… Strange isn’t it? We honestly believe that if we just live however makes us happy and leave everyone else alone about their “beliefs” and “rights” that we’ll all get along just fine. Good joke. Good joke.
Sorry for the rant, but I really do just love how the world has no time and space for God in day to day, or even war to war, then somebody innocent dies and the question is always posed, “where is your God now? why does he allow suffering like this?” Well, you may not have said it out loud (or maybe you did) but he’s leaving you alone, just like you wanted. Have fun with that.

Recently, while temporarily child-rearing (aka babysitting), I heard a young man of about six say these words to his sister, “You’re a big fat goon!!!” And upon my maternal head spin yelped, “just kidding, um, er, its opposite day!” Those words flashed back in my mind like it was yesterday. Me and my sisters would muster up the most superfluous insults and hurl them, then just after the sting would mutter something similar to the young man of six up the page. This story may lend itself to a little over-analogizing but the point I really want to make is much more serious and life-impacting.
“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.” -James 3:9-12
This subject has been brought to my attention by the Holy Spirit and non-believers many times over the past weeks so I figured it shouldn’t go untold. In one situation a few non-believers told me of churches (yes, Christ’s body & representation on earth) whose leaders had mislead congregations and blatantly sinned in numerous ways. (This could be a rabbit-trail / blog all in itself but yes, I certainly understand that Christian leaders especially are under attack and face more severe testing due to their calling. But in the very same way, I subscribe to the idea that if there is more “testing” there better be more “passing” and leading by good deeds so that these men may glorify your Father in Heaven.)
Anyway, all this is to say, are you really intentionally following Christ or has sin just not yet knocked? Is it easy for you to talk and walk as long as you’re not presented with a different path?? How will you respond when you are tested? Are you setting up your life in a way that is safe-guarded against sin and its harmful effects or do you deny that they could ever get ahold of you?? Just a couple of questions for you to ponder…holla back.

I promise you, there are 20 dogs in the 7 houses that surround me.
That may not seem like a ton — a couple of families with a couple of dogs isn’t a big deal. BUT IT IS.
These dogs are called chain reaction dogs. If a siren goes off, it starts the whole neighborhood. If a car drives by, the dogs go to the fence and bark their heads off. And last but certainly not least, if these dogs sense that you are trying to sleep, they bark more.
I wonder if they’ll ever get sore throats.
Any vets??
