This is a trailer for an actual DVD which tells the story of many underground Christians in Vietnam. I hope to get the DVD soon and watch the entire thing but here’s my thought from just watching the trailer:
I don’t know what the American church believes about the persecuted church in the rest of the world…I know how we act…typically indifferent…but I don’t know what we believe about our BROTHERS and SISTERS world-wide. Should they be facing persecution on their own? Is it a case of unfortunate circumstances for those born into persecution, or saved into a faith that is shown hostility? Are we to do anything really?
Are they “chosen” to suffer and we’re “chosen” to live in the lap of luxury and under the jurisdiction of Christ-friendly government? Doesn’t really seem like a fair or just plan does it?!
I believe what Christ requires of us is: no matter what situation we are placed in to live in (proof that we are placed) he wants us to seek Him as treasure. Western Christians are entrusted monetary riches that we may glorify God by treating our money like it is NOT our treasure, that Christ is. Our food is not our treasure, Christ is. Our games and teams are not our treasure, Christ is. Vietnamese Christian’s bodies are persecuted that they may glorify God in persecution and death because their bodies aren’t their treasure, Christ is. Their families are not their treausure, Christ is. Their freedom is not their treasure, Christ is.
It seems as though we’ve been dealt an easy hand on this side of the world doesn’t it? And we have in many ways, but how many of us are wrapped up in the latest video game? Blog? Book? Clothing? Magazine? Diet? Food? Child? Husband? Boyfriend? Job? Some of these are necessary, some are even good BUT they are NOT your treasures…Christ is. There is much required to follow Christ, that is why he commands us to also count the cost … It is a matter of death and life, here or in Vietnam. Hundreds of people hang in the balance everyday because of how you DO or DON’T glorify Christ!

Not to use all my recommendations in one day (though there will be many more next week) but I also really love this new Charlie Hall lyric and I’ve been listening to it all day…
Sweet Jesus Christ my sanity.
Sweet Jesus Christ my clarity.
Bread of heaven broken for me.
Cup of salvation held up to drink.
Jesus the MYSTERY.
Christ has died, Christ has risen, & Christ will come again.

…this study to anyone who wants to go deeper…
Its “Colossians: Embrace the Mystery” by Ron Keck
It’ll challenge you to think outside where you’re comfortable thinking. The unseen world in Christianity is often left unexplored but as Jesus teaches and speaks, we learn that it is actually of greater value, importance and MORE REAL than the seen.
This gives me hope because there isn’t too too much going on in the seen that can’t be explained…there’s a LOT in the unseen that I have no idea to wrap my mind around and I’m ok with that — especially in Colossians. Understanding that God is much bigger…Colossians point blank states that Christ is supreme over Creation, angels, re-creation, and reconciliation. All this and much more is our Savior supreme over!
We are two weeks in today and I am in awe from what we covered in the first week!
This series, “More” does not only cover Colossians. It also covers Job, Matthew, and Song of Solomon–hopefully many more to come!
Happy studying!
